Sash windows at St Mary's Primary School to be replaced

PLANNING chiefs have received a proposal to replace the timber-framed windows at a Victorian school opposite the home of Southampton Football Club.
The city council has applied for planning permission to carry out the work at St Mary s Primary School, a Grade II-listed building which overlooks St Mary s Stadium.
Its application includes a design and access statement submitted by Perfect Circle.
The main building is locally listed by Southampton City Council and was built in 1882, according to a plaque on the front.
The building is owned by the Diocese of Winchester. However the property management is undertaken by the Anglican Diocese of Portsmouth on their behalf. ....

Telepresence robot enables COVID-19 patients to talk to their loved ones
Researchers of the Integrated Systems Engineering Group of the University of Malaga (UMA) have designed a telepresence robot that enables people suffering from COVID-19 to talk to their loved ones.
Although this scientific team has been working in social robotics for more than a decade within the ROSI project, they have provided this new design with additional functions in order to adapt it to the pandemic needs, with the aim of facilitating the work of professionals in nursing homes and hospitals.
We have enabled people that are isolated in a room to have a video call with relatives and friends without risks and regardless of their ability to use new technologies , says one of the main researchers of this project, Juan Pedro Bandera, Professor of the School of Telecommunications. ....

Philly CEAL team receives NIH grant to extend COVID-19 outreach
José A. Bauermeister, PhD, and Antonia M. Villarruel, PhD, are leading one of 10 new research teams from across the country that received National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants totaling $14 million to extend the reach of the NIH s Community Engagement Alliance (CEAL) Against COVID-19 Disparities.
The Philly CEAL team was awarded $1.4 million from the NIH with additional support from Penn Nursing and The University of Pennsylvania, bringing the total for the alliance to $1.53 million.
The toll of the pandemic among racial/ethnic populations in Philadelphia cannot be understated. Alongside the stark morbidity and mortality COVID-19 estimates reported by the city, racial/ethnic minorities in Philadelphia have also been most likely to experience job loss, income reduction, and decreased access to social resources. ....

When the pandemic broke out,
Kawailehua Paikai was concerned because it restricted students like herself from traveling. The biggest way it affected her studies was in keeping students from traveling and shifting health care delivery to telehealth.

“I was lucky enough to have finished spring clinicals before COVID started,” Paikai explained. “The clinicals for summer were pushed to fall and by then most places had shifted to adding telehealth to their practices. Without the pandemic, we probably would not have had as much experience doing telehealth visits.”
As a Kānaka maoli (Native Hawaiian), Paikai is passionate about Native Hawaiians having access to healthcare. She is currently a case manager at Queen’s Medical Center and sees firsthand some of the issues the Pacific Islander community faces. COVID: Chopra Nursing Home to restart operations as 100 bed Covid centre
Jammu, May 16 (UNI) Closed for the past four years, the Chopra Nursing Home will finally get operational with 100 bed capacity to treat COVID infected.
Taking a review, Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh on Sunday said that Chopra Nursing Home, affiliated to Government Medical College Jammu, will start functioning with 100 bed capacity to begin with and two more Oxygen Plants having the capacity of 2400 LPM i.e. 3456 cubic metric tonnes will be installed in GMC Jammu which will be in addition to the existing Oxygen plants.
At the same time, it will be ensured that the senior Consultants take regular rounds of the Wards and are also available as and when required. ....
